Sometimes you don’t have to go far to enjoy a perfect day in Asturias. Very close to Las Mimosas del Nalón, there are landscapes that encapsulate everything we love about this region: paths along cliffs, hidden beaches, forests that smell of damp earth, and estuaries where the river meets the sea. Today we suggest a day trip that’s close by, easy and beautiful: Concha de Artedo, the Senda de los Miradores and San Esteban de Pravia. A day for walking, breathing and enjoying yourself at a leisurely pace. Itinerary Morning: Concha de Artedo beach Midday: a relaxed lunch at Casa Miguel, right on the beach Afternoon: San Esteban de Pravia and the Senda de los Miradores.End of the day: a rest at Las Mimosas. Concha de Artedo Beach: the reward after the forest Concha de Artedo is a beach best savoured from the path. Before reaching the sea, the forest comes into view. A pleasant, green, cool walk, full of gentle sounds. Little by little, you can hear the Cantabrian Sea. And at the end, the beach opens up like a great shell between the hills. It is a perfect spot for those who enjoy both the destination and the journey. La Concha de Artedo nourishes the senses with the scent of the trees, the sound of the sea and that blend of sand, stone and horizon that so defines Asturias. What to do in Concha de Artedo Stroll down to the beach, walk along the shore, take photos, sit and listen to the sea, and enjoy a quiet meal in the area. It’s a port, it’s history, it’s an estuary, it’s industrial heritage and it’s the sea close by. Here the River Nalón meets the Cantabrian Sea and the landscape blends old cranes, water, boats and green mountains. It’s the perfect place for a leisurely stroll, a drink and the start of one of the area’s most beautiful routes. Senda de los Miradores: walking along the Cantabrian coast The Senda de los Miradores is one of those routes that explains why Asturias is a place you feel. The path offers views of the sea, cliffs, benches to rest on, the scent of eucalyptus, the sound of birds and small beaches that appear amongst the vegetation. You don’t have to do the whole thing if you don’t feel like it. The important thing is to walk a stretch, stop, look and enjoy. It’s an ideal route to feed the eyes, the ears and that very human need to switch off. This is one of our favourite plans because it shows that Asturias begins very close to home. A day among dinosaurs and the sea in Asturias
There are days that children remember for years to come. And others that also remain forever etched in adults’ memories. Because there is something magical about discovering the world together. After a leisurely breakfast at Las Mimosas del Nalón, with the coffee still hot and the morning calm washing over the terrace, we set off for one of those places capable of sparking the imagination of the whole family. La Griega Beach, in Colunga. A special place where the sea, time and history come together. Strolling amongst dinosaur footprints on La Griega Beach La Griega Beach is not just a beautiful spot for a walk along the Cantabrian coast. Here, hidden amongst the rocks, lie some of the largest sauropod dinosaur footprints in the world. A leisurely stroll along the shore whilst the children search for dinosaur footprints becomes an experience that is hard to forget. And perhaps that is the most beautiful thing about Asturias: turning something as simple as a walk into an adventure. Discover MUJA: the museum where dinosaurs come back to life After the walk, the adventure continues at the Jurassic Museum of Asturias, known as MUJA. Perched on the cliffs between Colunga and Lastres, the museum seems to blend into the landscape. The building is shaped like a dinosaur footprint and houses one of the most spectacular palaeontological spaces in Spain. () Everything here is designed for the whole family to enjoy. Giant dinosaurs, fossils, reconstructions and interactive spaces that achieve something wonderful: they make both children and adults look at the world through eyes of curiosity once more. Lunch by the sea in Lastres After a Jurassic morning, one of our favourite moments of the day arrives: sitting down to a leisurely lunch by the sea. And for that, Lastres never disappoints. Two perfect recommendations to round off the plan: Because that’s what holidays are all about: sharing a good meal whilst chatting about everything you’ve experienced that morning. An afternoon discovering Lastres After lunch, it’s time to get lost without a map. Lastres has something special. Its steep streets, the sea-facing façades, the endless staircases and the sound of the harbour make every corner seem frozen in time. Climbing slowly up to the Mirador de la Atalaya or heading to the San Roque Viewpoint is one of those little things that end up becoming your favourite memory of the trip. And yes, very close by you’ll also find the Lastres Lighthouse, perfect for ending the day watching the evening fall over the Jurassic Coast. Returning to Las Mimosas del Nalón and reliving the adventure And then comes that moment we love so much. Returning to Las Mimosas del Nalón after a day filled with the sea, dinosaurs and discoveries, sitting quietly at sunset and listening as everyone recalls a different part of the adventure. The total eclipse on 12 August… from a front-row seat at Las Mimosas del Nalón There are moments that happen once in a lifetime. And this will be one of them. On 12 August 2026, Asturias will be one of the best places in Europe to experience the total solar eclipse. And from Las Mimosas del Nalón, we’ll have the privilege of watching it from our own viewing point and from the house’s terraces, with the Sun slowly sinking over the landscape, right in front of us. It’s the sort of spectacle that’s hard to put into words. What time will the eclipse begin? According to the official timetables published by the National Geographic Institute and the forecasts for Asturias, the eclipse will begin around 7.30 pm. Little by little, we will see the Moon begin to cover the Sun as the light changes, the atmosphere grows quieter and the landscape takes on that strange, magical hue that only occurs during a total eclipse. The most impressive moment will come around 8.27–8.30 pm, when we will experience the total phase. For a few minutes, the Sun will disappear completely and the sky will darken in the middle of the evening. () And it will be precisely at that moment when the light will be exactly as in this image: low, golden and falling over the estuary as the Sun begins to hide behind the horizon. If you’d like to see how we saw it on 30 April (the twin day), you can do so here An eclipse at sunset… and that makes it even more special What makes this eclipse unique is precisely the time of day it will occur. The Sun will be very low on the western horizon, creating spectacular light and an atmosphere that is hard to describe. From Las Mimosas del Nalón, we will have a privileged view of the most important part of the eclipse, with completely unobstructed views of the sunset. After totality, the Moon will begin to reveal the Sun once more and, at around 9.15 pm, the Sun will start to disappear behind the Atalaya, so from here we will no longer be able to see the final part of the phenomenon. But the most exciting part will already have taken place right before our eyes. Our favourite plan to end the day If you ask us how we would spend that perfect afternoon, we know exactly what we’d do. Enjoying the eclipse from the terrace, letting the sky slowly darken over Asturias… and then strolling down to Los Quebrantos Beach around 9.00 pm to watch the final minutes of the eclipse by the sea. Because some experiences don’t need rushing. Just the right place and the perfect moment. And honestly… we believe this will be one of those memories that will last forever.

One of our favourite plans is to walk the famous Senda de los Miradores, a place where every bend seems to force you to stop and take in the scenery a little longer. Here are two options, depending on how keen you are on climbing stairs that day 😉 VIEW THE FULL ROUTE/TRAIL FROM HERE Plan A: start from the bottom and climb up to the chapel The perfect option for those who enjoy walking slowly, breathing in the Cantabrian air and feeling the landscape gradually open up with every step. The climb is well worth it: incredible views, silence and that feeling of having reached a special place. Plan B: park directly at the Mirador del Espíritu Santo Because holidays are also about listening to your body. If you prefer a more relaxed plan, you can head straight to the viewpoint and still enjoy spectacular views without too much walking. This is another way to enjoy Asturias: without pressure and without rushing. Dining by the sea at Casa Miguel After a morning spent on trails and at viewpoints, it’s time to sit down to a meal. First, a stroll through Cudillero. Lose yourself in its streets, climb up and down stairs, discover hidden viewpoints and simply stop to watch the harbour. Afterwards, the route can continue towards Cabo Vidio, where the sea crashes against the cliffs with a force impossible to capture in photos. And if there’s still daylight and a desire to keep exploring, Playa del Silencio is always worth a stop. There are places that need no words to stay with you. This is one of them. Cudillero, Cape Vidio and Silencio Beach: the Asturias that looks out to sea
There are days in Asturias that begin with the scent of coffee and end with salt on your skin. Days when the sea becomes your travelling companion and every bend in the road seems to open a new window onto the Cantabrian Sea. At Las Mimosas del Nalón, we invite you to experience Asturias at a leisurely pace: choose an area, savour it at your own pace, and then return to rest as if you were coming home. Today we’re heading to one of the most exciting routes on the west coast: Cudillero, Cabo Vidio and Playa del Silencio. A perfect plan for looking, breathing, listening… and feeding the senses. Plan for the day Morning: a stroll through Cudillero. If you’re visiting in high season, you should do this first thing in the morning or leave it until late afternoon. Midday: a seafood lunch or a snack with a view.Afternoon: Cabo Vidio and Playa del Silencio. Two of our favourite spots at any time of year. The sunset is breathtaking. End of the day: return to Las Mimosas to rest. Cudillero: a colourful amphitheatre facing the Cantabrian Sea. You don’t just visit Cudillero. It’s a place to discover. First, the harbour comes into view. Then, the colourful houses climbing up the hillside as if they all wanted to peer out at the sea. Next come the stairways, the viewpoints, the narrow streets and that feeling of being inside a village that looks as if it were hand-painted. In the harbour, we recommend Deleo, ideal for breakfast and a mid-morning break. Tell them we sent you. It is one of the prettiest fishing villages in Asturias and one of those places where it’s best to lose yourself without watching the clock. Climb up to a viewpoint, head down to the square, listen to the seagulls, smell the aromas from the harbour and let the seaside atmosphere do the rest. Cudillero delights the eye with its colours, the ear with the sound of the harbour and the palate with a cuisine that tastes of the sea. What to see in Cudillero Stroll through the Plaza de la Marina, climb up to one of its viewpoints, wander its narrow streets and head down to the harbour. The best thing about Cudillero isn’t just seeing it: it’s letting yourself be enveloped by its way of life. Cabo Vidio: the lighthouse, the wind and the vastness After Cudillero, the landscape opens up. At Cabo Vidio, the Bay of Biscay appears vast. The lighthouse, the cliffs and the wind create a powerful, unspoilt, almost cinematic scene. You’ll enjoy 360° of spectacular views. It’s a place to walk slowly, gaze at the horizon and feel that sense of freedom unique to open landscapes. Here, the sea isn’t just in the background. Here, the sea takes up everything. Playa del Silencio: where the sea speaks softly Playa del Silencio is one of Asturias’ natural gems. Its name says it all.
