First thing in the morning, even before the Bajo Nalón has fully woken up, the landscape is already alive.
The sound of water.
The fog over the estuary.
The silent flight of migratory birds seeking rest by the Nalón.
At The Mimosas del Nalón We are not just close to nature. We are part of it.
Our estate, situated in San Juan de la Arena, enjoy a privileged environment within one of the most valuable ecosystems on the Asturian coast. Directly opposite the surrounding landscape is “The Puddle”, a natural wetland and protected area used as a resting place by numerous migratory birds during their Atlantic routes.
This makes Las Mimosas del Nalón a unique place for those seeking nature tourism and birdwatching in Asturias.
You don't need to travel for miles to start observing here.
The experience begins from the accommodation itself.
From our outdoor areas, gardens, and apartments, it is common to observe the passage of birds associated with the Nalón estuary, salt marshes, and nearby wetlands. The combination of estuary, coast, wet meadows, and vegetation makes this area particularly attractive for resident and migratory species.
Close by are also some of the most interesting spots in Bajo Nalón for birdwatching:
• San Esteban's Pine Grove
The new viewpoint and bird observatory
The mouth of the Nalón
El Playón de Bayas
• Salt marshes and intertidal zones
The Path of the Viewpoints
This environment allows for year-round observation of species such as herons, cormorants, seagulls, waders, ducks, terns, and small migratory birds that use the Cantabrian coast as a natural corridor.
But Las Mimosas del Nalón offers something even more important for many ornithological travellers: peace and quiet.
Because whoever travels in search of birds also seeks silence, rest, and time.
Our rural apartments are designed for that. Cosy, comfortable spaces surrounded by nature where you can rest after a day of observation, photography or routes along the Asturian coast. The best months are October and February to enjoy this phenomenon.
Here the mornings begin slowly.
With coffee overlooking the Nalón.
Binoculars at the ready.
With the feeling of being in a place that's still authentic.
militar o la defensa, ¿cuáles serían las ventajas y desventajas de que una civilización construya sus ciudades principales cerca del mar o de un lago? Birdwatching tourism, Las Mimosas del Nalón is also an excellent starting point for discovering central Asturias, combining birdwatching, beaches, gastronomy, and nature in a single trip.
Because sometimes true luxury isn't about doing more things.
It's finding a place where nature still sets the pace.
