Cudillero, Cape Vidio and Silencio Beach: the Asturias that looks out to sea

There are days in Asturias that start with the smell of coffee and end with salt on your skin. Days when the sea becomes a travel companion and every bend in the road seems to open a new window onto the Cantabrian Sea.

From The Mimosas del Nalón, We propose that you experience Asturias at a leisurely pace: choose an area, savour it slowly, and then return to rest as you would return home.

Today we travel towards one of the most exciting routes on the west coast: Cudillero, Cape Vidio and the Beach of Silence.

A perfect plan to look, breathe, listen… and feed the senses.

Daily plan

In the morning A stroll through Cudillero. If you go in the high season, you should do it first thing in the morning or leave it until the end of the afternoon.
Midday Seafood meal or appetiser with views.
In the afternoon Cabo Vidio and Playa del Silencio. Two of our favourite places at any time of year. The sunset is amazing.
End of the day: I'm returning to Las Mimosas to rest.

Cudillero: a colourful amphitheatre facing the Cantabrian Sea

Cudillero isn't visited. It's discovered.

First, the harbour appears. Then, colourful houses climbing the hillside as if they all want to peek out at the sea. Next come the stairs, the viewpoints, the narrow streets and that feeling of being inside a village that looks hand-painted. In the harbour, we recommend Deleo, ideal for breakfasts and mid-morning breaks. Tell them we sent you.

It is one of the prettiest fishing villages in Asturias and one of those places where it's best to get lost without looking at the clock. Climb up to a viewpoint, go down towards the square, listen to the seagulls, smell the harbour kitchens, and let the maritime atmosphere do the rest.

Cudillero delights the eyes with its colours, the ears with the murmur of the port and the taste with a cuisine that tastes of the sea.

What to see in Cudillero

Stroll through the Plaza de la Marina, ascend one of its viewpoints, wander through its narrow streets, and head towards the port. The most beautiful thing about Cudillero isn't just seeing it; it's letting yourself be captivated by its life.

Cabo Vidio: the lighthouse, the wind and the immensity

After Cudillero, the landscape opens up.

At Cape Vidio, the Cantabrian Sea appears immense. The lighthouse, the cliffs and the wind create a powerful, clean, almost cinematic scene. You'll see 360º of spectacular views.

It's a place to walk slowly, look at the horizon and feel that freedom that only wide-open landscapes possess. Here the sea isn't in the background. Here the sea occupies everything.

Playa del Silencio: where the sea whispers

The Silencio Beach It is one of the natural jewels of Asturias.

Its name says it all. It's a beach to wander down to, listen to the waves, and stay in silence for a while. There’s not much more you need to do. The cliffs, the pebbles and the deep blue of the water create a moving scene.

It is a wild, natural, and serene beach. Perfect for those looking for a special place, the kind that you don't forget.

After a day like this, to go back to The Mimosas del Nalón It offers some shelter. You arrive with the sound of the sea within, your camera full of landscapes, and with that peace that only Asturias knows how to gift. Here, prepare some drinks and enjoy good conversation on our viewpoint.

Feed your senses. Discover the coast. Relax at Las Mimosas.
