There are places that defy explanation.
They feel it.
Places where water sets the rhythm of the days, where dawn smells of saltpetre and wet grass, and where sport ceases to be mere competition to become a way of connecting with the landscape, with people, and with oneself.
That's what will happen again this May in San Juan de la Arena with the III Eco SUP Trophy Bajo Nalón 2026.
and for us, in The Mimosas del Nalón, to once again be official accommodation for participants and families means much more than offering a place to sleep. It means being part of something that we deeply feel is our own: A way to experience Asturias that nourishes the senses.
An event that is already part of the heart of Bajo Nalón
For the 23rd and 24th of May, the Nalón will once again be filled with boards, paddles, families, nerves, laughter and excitement. The championship will feature sprint, technical race, and long-distance events, as well as popular crossings, in one of the most special landscapes on the Asturian coast: the mouth of the Nalón and the surroundings of San Juan de la Arena.
The competition isn't just lived in the water:
It happens at breakfasts before competing.
Children playing while waiting for departure.
With parents cheering from the sidelines.
For those discovering Asturias for the first time and leaving wanting to return.
Because events like Eco SUP generate something very valuable for the territory: life.
Life for the municipality.
Life for the local hospitality industry.
A lifestyle for businesses that believe in sustainable, active, and human tourism.
A feast for the senses: our understanding of sports tourism
At Las Mimosas del Nalón, we've always maintained that travelling isn't just about visiting a place.
It involves living it.
That's why our “Feed the Senses” philosophy connects so naturally with an event like the Eco SUP Bajo Nalón. Here, sport mixes with nature, gastronomy, relaxation, and the unhurried discovery of Asturias.
After a day of competition, our guests find something they often don't expect:
Silence, open views of the valley, terraces for relaxing at sunset, and apartments designed for family time.
Our rural apartments for 4-6 people are especially comfortable for sporty families and groups looking for space, an equipped kitchen, outdoor areas and tranquility just a few minutes from the port of San Juan de la Arena. We also have apartments for couples and hostel options for teams or travellers looking for a more flexible and economical stay.
Because we understand what those who travel for sport need:
to rest well, feel comfortable, and have space to switch off.
Much more than accommodation: community
One of the most special aspects of this championship is the collaboration between people and projects that believe in the territory.
Eco SUP wouldn't be the same without the drive of clubs, volunteers, organisers, and collaborators who have been committed for years to a model of sport linked to nature and respect for the environment.
And there we want to particularly highlight projects such as MarOcean y North Break, which help to continue building an active community around the sea, surfing, paddleboarding and environmental education.
Rompiente Norte has also become one of those places that understand sport as a shared experience: the sea, camaraderie, learning, and a connection with Asturias.
When local businesses collaborate instead of compete, the destination grows.
And that shows.
San Juan de la Arena: the great silent host
Those who visit San Juan de la Arena once usually return. Soto del Barco
Perhaps it's the port.
Perhaps the Nalón as it enters the Cantabrian Sea.
Perhaps its lively terraces after the tests.
Because another of the main stars of the event will be, once again, the local hospitality industry.
The bars, restaurants, and businesses in the town are all part of the experience for our visitors. From early breakfasts before competing to seaside lunches after the awards ceremony, the championship is also an opportunity to discover the gastronomy and warmth of an authentic fishing village.
People still say hello on the street here.
Here time still seems to go a little slower.
And that, today, is worth a great deal.
A perfect destination for sporty families all year round
Although May is a date marked on the calendar, the reality is that Bajo Nalón has become an ideal destination for families and athletes all year round.
Surf.
Alright.
Hiking.
Cycling.
Kayak.
Trail running.
Active getaways in the heart of nature.
Increasingly, travellers are seeking destinations where they can combine sport, relaxation, and authentic experiences. And Asturias, especially this area of Bajo Nalón, has an enormous capacity to offer precisely that.
At Las Mimosas del Nalón, we want to continue being that meeting point for those who travel driven by a passion for sport, nature, and simple living.
A place to rest after paddling.
Where can I have a leisurely breakfast?.
Where children have space to run.
Where families feel at home.
Because in the end, competing lasts a few hours.
But the memories of the trip remain for much longer.
See you at the 3rd Eco SUP Bajo Nalón Trophy 2026
This May we will once again look at the river full of boards and people from many places.
And we will feel pride again.
Pride of our surroundings.
Proud to collaborate with those who drive sport and the municipality.
Pride in continuing to showcase an authentic, active, and humane Asturias.
Thanks to Eco SUP, organisers, collaborators, clubs, local hospitality and athletes for continuing to grow this event year after year.
We'll be waiting for you here.
To row.
To rest.
To discover Asturias.
And, above all, to feed the senses.
