A little bit of history
The story of San Juan de la Arena it is closely linked to the River Nalón.
For centuries, this river mouth was an important point of communication and commercial activity for central Asturias.
Fishermen found a natural shelter here and the port grew around fishing and maritime activity.

What to see in San Juan de la Arena
The fishing port
One of the most representative places in the village.
The boats, nets and the coming and going of fishermen continue to be part of the daily landscape.
It is especially beautiful at dawn and dusk, when the light completely transforms the surroundings.
The promenade
Ideal for walking along the sea while observing the beach, the Nalón estuary and the changing colours of the Cantabrian Sea.
It's one of those walks that invite you to stop and simply contemplate. In summer, we recommend the ice cream shop and a stroll around the harbour with one of their ice creams. They're very good!
The lighthouse and the harbour entrance
From the pier area, you get some of the best views of the village.
On days with rough seas, it is a spectacle to watch the waves break against the breakwater.

Los Quebrantos Beach: the great treasure of San Juan de la Arena

Stretching for over three kilometres, it is one of the longest beaches in central Asturias.
