Asturian beaches that fascinate us

They say that when you arrive in Asturias, time starts to move in a different way. At Las Mimosas del Nalón we see it every week: guests who arrive in a hurry, with their heads full of noise... and who, on the second day, walk more slowly, breathe more deeply and smile more easily. Maybe it's the sound of the river, the smell of wood, or that silence that only exists in places where life is lived without haste. One of our favourite plans for that “change of pace” is to invite you to visit some of the most magical beaches on the Asturian coast. We're not just talking about sand and sea; we're talking about corners that embrace you, cliffs that seem painted, walks that heal the soul and sunsets that live on in your memory. That is why we have prepared this special selection: our favourite beaches, the ones we visit time and time again without tiring, the ones we recommend to those who come looking for real relaxation. Each one has its own character, its own charm, its own perfect time of day. And they are all just a stone's throw away from Las Mimosas del Nalón. Get ready, because this little trip along the Asturian coast is a plan that will make you fall in love even before you pack your suitcase. 1. Los Quebrantos Beach Highlights: This beach of slightly darker sand -due to the sediments of the river Nalón- is about 810 m long and becomes, at low tide, part of the longest sandy beach in Asturias when it joins up with the Playón de Bayas. It is the one we have in front of us and our daily walk. A 10 minute walk from home. 2. El Playón de Bayas The best dog beach in Spain 😉 Highlights: One of the largest sandy beaches in Asturias: ~3 km long when joined with Los Quebrantos. Dunes are common, strong waves, ideal for very long walks, surfing or just breathing the open sea. If you come with a dog, you can't miss it. We recommend, if the tide is low, to go from our beach Los Quebrantos. If you come by car, it's only 20 minutes away. 3. El Aguilar Beach Highlights: Located in the council of Muros de Nalón, this beach is surrounded by cliffs and forest, with spectacular rock formations (for example the “Peña del Castaballar”) that make it very attractive visually. An environment that combines sea and forest landscape. It takes approximately 10-12 minutes by car to get there. 4. Playa del Silencio One of the beaches and cliffs that fascinate us most. Come down if the tide is low, otherwise enjoy the views from above. You will love it. Considered one of the jewels of the Asturian coast: surrounded by cliffs, with spectacular sea tones and a peaceful atmosphere. Ideal for those looking for a more leisurely experience, authentic nature and views to linger over. By car it takes about 25-30 minutes. It is located in the council of Cudillero. 5. La Concha de Artedo Beach Very quiet in winter, in spring and summer we recommend you change it up with a meal overlooking the sea. Shell-shaped beach, in the council of Cudillero; golden sand, protected environment. To get there from the car park there is a very pleasant 10-minute walk which is quite an experience. It is a 20-minute drive away. 6. Las Llanas Beach This is one of the attractions when you take the Los Miradores path, one of the paths we like the most. It is important that you only go down if there is low tide, you will enjoy the beach more. From the top, it is quite a surprise. A more isolated beach, with cliffs, quiet nature and less crowds. Access is a little more “adventurous” with a staircase from the cliff. For those seeking total disconnection. Each of these beaches offers a different flavour of the Asturian coast: from the most accessible and equipped to the wildest and quietest. And the best thing: staying at Las Mimosas del Nalón you have all of them at hand for half-day or full-day getaways. What do you think if on your next visit you choose one of them for your day at the beach and we organise the getaway for you? Best regards, Carlos +34657952969

Asturias in February: plans, festivals and flavours

Why come to Asturias in February? There are months that invite you to slow down. February in Asturias is one of them: seas with character, intense greenery, unhurried fishing villages and festivals that warm up the winter. It is also the season for sea urchins and spoon cuisine - a perfect plan for combining nature and gastronomy. During the week and outside long weekends you'll find fewer people and better prices. Where to stay San Juan de la Arena (L'Arena), on the central coast, a stone's throw from Avilés, Gijón, Oviedo and Los Quebrantos beach. It is a seaside town, with a riverside promenade, ports and authentic Cantabrian cuisine. Events and festivals in February (approximate dates for 2026) The dates of the Carnival vary each year. Here are official/municipal references for 2026 Antroxu de Avilés (Carnival): parades, charangas and the famous Descent of Galiana. Antroxu menu (Oviedo and other towns): pote con compango and traditional pastries (frixuelos, casadiellas...). San Juan de la Arena, “capital of the angulera”: the angulera tradition is still very present in the town and its seafood gastronomy. Nature you can feel (from San Juan de la Arena) Los Quebrantos beach and riverside promenade: walk on dark sand, listen to the waves and return at sunset along the boardwalk. Nalón estuary: estuary with muddy plains and interesting riverside vegetation; in L'Arena you have the “Puerta del Mar” Interpretation Centre to understand its environmental value and the culture of the elver.
