In western Asturias.

All it takes is a street by the sea, the sound of seagulls, a quiet conversation on a terrace or a viewpoint where the Cantabrian Sea seems endless.

Asturias during your holiday, today we propose one of our favourite excursions from Las Mimosas del Nalón: discovering Puerto de Vega, San Agustín Lighthouse, Luarca and the La Regalina Hermitage.

Three different corners that share the essence of seafaring Asturias: authenticity, spectacular landscapes, and the calm that we value so much when we travel.

It's a perfect route for a full day, savouring some of the most beautiful villages on the Asturian West Coast without rushing.

The plan for the day

Recommended route for the day

Tomorrow

Pleasant visit to Puerto de Vega.

Midday

Food in Luarca or in one of the restaurants on the western coast.

Afternoon

A walk through Luarca and up to its viewpoints. And if you have time to spare, a stroll through the Fonte Baxa gardens,

Sunset

Stop at La Regalina to say goodbye to the day facing the Cantabrian Sea. Or the San Agustín lighthouse; from both spots, you'll have a spectacular sunset.

Night

I'm returning to Las Mimosas del Nalón to rest and enjoy the tranquillity of the Nalón.

Puerto de Vega: one of the most charming fishing villages in Asturias

Puerto de Vega is an understated gem on the western coast of Asturias. A fishing village that has retained the unspoiled character of the Asturian coastline, it invites you to wander without a destination, observing every detail.

Everything happens slowly here.

The cobbled streets descend towards the harbour, traditional houses display flower-filled balconies and the sea is present in every corner. It's a place where life tied to fishing can still be felt and where beauty appears naturally, without artifice.

What we like most about Puerto de Vega is precisely its authenticity. It doesn't need to draw attention to itself. It wins you over gradually.

What to see in Puerto de Vega

The fishing harbour.

The historic centre.

The viewpoints over the coast.

Traditional streets full of nautical details.

Secluded spots by the sea where you can simply stop and gaze at the scenery.

An experience for the senses

Puerto de Vega smells of salt, damp wood and seafood cooking. The cry of seagulls accompanies your stroll as the Cantabrian light constantly shifts across the facades and boats.

It’s one of those places where the real plan is to have no plan.

Recommended photos

Boats moored in the harbour.

Traditional maritime facades.

Balconies with flowers.

Panoramic view of the port from a high vantage point.

Another option for today is to visit the San Agustín Lighthouse. If you're one of those who enjoy cliff views from lighthouses, check out the book we have at reception, you'll love it.

FARO DE SAN AGUSTIN

Luarca, the White Town of the Green Coast

After Puerto de Vega, the route continues towards Luarca, one of Asturias' most well-known and photographed fishing villages.

Known as the White Town of the Costa Verde, Luarca combines the beauty of a traditional fishing harbour with an elegant arrangement of white houses cascading down the slopes surrounding the bay.

It is a perfect place to stroll leisurely, discover different viewpoints and be surprised by the sights that appear at every turn.

What to see in Luarca

The fishing harbour.

The fishing quarter.

The viewpoints over the town.

The Luarca cemetery, considered one of the most beautiful in Spain due to its location overlooking the sea.

The Lighthouse and the Watchtower.

The charm of an afternoon by the sea

The best way to enjoy Luarca is by strolling. Crossing the bridges, observing the activity of the port, stopping at a terrace and contemplating how the afternoon light transforms the colours of the facades.

Every corner offers a different photograph and a new perspective on the sea.

One of the places we visit in every season is the Fonte Baxa gardens; it's a spectacular walk and we recommend doing it with Nike, the gardens' guide. He tells you everything in detail and makes the visit even more enjoyable. If you'd like, we can book a visit for you.

Recommended photos

Panoramic views from the viewpoints.

Harbour with white houses in the background.

Reflections of boats on the water.

Cemetery and lighthouse with the Cantabrian Sea as a backdrop.

La Regalina: one of the most exciting viewpoints in Asturias

As the afternoon begins to fall, it’s time to head to Cadavedo to visit one of the most special places on the Asturian coast.

La Ermita de La Regalina stands on a spectacular natural balcony overlooking the Cantabrian Sea.

The landscape is simple and precisely for that reason it is so striking: a small hermitage, vast green meadows, cliffs, and the sea opening up to the horizon.

There's no rush here.

Only the wind, the sound of the waves and one of Asturias' best panoramic views.

What makes La Regalina special

Its views over the cliffs of western Asturias.

The feeling of spaciousness and tranquillity.

Sunsets over the Cantabrian Sea.

Its authentic and unpretentious atmosphere.

Many travellers consider this place one of Asturias' most photogenic corners.

And when the sun begins to set, it's easy to see why.

One of the best excursions in western Asturias

Puerto de Vega, Luarca and La Regalina represent three different ways of understanding the Asturian coast.

The maritime authenticity of Puerto de Vega, the elegance of Luarca, and the scenic emotion of La Regalina create a perfect route for those seeking to discover the quieter, more authentic Asturias.

They are places that are not visited solely with a camera.

They enjoy walking, observing, breathing, and letting time pass at a different pace.

End the day resting at Las Mimosas del Nalón

After a day exploring some of Asturias' most beautiful fishing villages, there's nothing better than returning to the tranquility of Las Mimosas del Nalón.

Because travelling also consists of knowing when to stop.

Here you will find the much-needed rest to continue discovering Asturias the next day, always from a privileged location for exploring both the coast and the interior of the Principality.

Feed your senses. Conquista poco a poco. Alimenta tus sentidos. Descubre el occidente asturiano.
